Top Surgery in Kentucky

Despite Kentucky’s challenging landscape for accessing gender-affirming care, the state is home to a surprising number of surgeons offering Top Surgery. The University of Kentucky also operates a transgender health program called Transform Health, where UK Healthcare providers deliver high-quality, comprehensive care in a safe and inclusive environment. Available services include Top Surgery and Hysterectomy.

However, insurance coverage remains a major barrier for many transgender Kentuckians. Outside of Transform Health, there are two other surgeons in the state who accept insurance for Top Surgery, though only one of them also accepts Medicare. Access has been further restricted by recent legislation: in March 2025, House Bill 495 became law, banning Kentucky Medicaid from covering gender-affirming treatments for adults. Another proposal, House Bill 154, seeks to prohibit providers from accepting Medicare payments for gender-affirming care, though it has not yet been enacted.

Despite these challenges, affirming care is still available—and many providers remain committed to serving the trans community with compassion and respect.
